Columbus Ohio Family Photographer | Fall Mini Sessions

Columbus Ohio Family Photographer

It’s that time of year again. Can you believe it? As sad as I am to see summer end, I am just as excited for fall to begin. Crisp air, colorful leaves, seasonal scents, everything pumpkin is the essence of Fall. Not to mention my birthday 😉 and BOOTS! How could I forget about boots!

Senior Portraits Columbus Ohio | Zoe

Senior Portraits Columbus Ohio | Miss Zoe

I first met Zoe when I photographed her sister Victoria’s senior portraits two years before she stepped in front of my camera. When Zoe applied to be one of my models for the Class of 2014 I was so excited that she wanted the same experience as her sister. I could spend days upon days photographing Zoe. She truly is stunning and lots of fun. Since Zoe was a model of mine she got more than one session. We first did her full senior experience in downtown Columbus, Ohio near Clintonville & even made a stop at Via Vecchia.

Zoe has played basketball for years so I definitely wanted to give her some timeless basketball images that weren’t the typical basketball photos that she got through school.

We then head over to Darby Creek state park for these fun Americana images. Zoe can pull off any outfit I tell you! I adored her red cowboy boots paired with her flag denim shorts. If these don’t speak all American girl, I don’t know what does!

Stylized Session

For Zoe’s stylized session, we planned on doing some fun images in a field. We decided on getting a floral head wreath from Evan’s floral and Zoe brought in this beautiful white dress. Some of these images are my all time favorite images. The evening was warm and the golden sunlight was amazing. I of course soaked up every minute of that sunshine.

Meet Megan, class of 2014. You would never know it by some of her more serious poses, but we laughed through the entire session! We had a great time and she was a delight to have in front of the camera. We started with a mini stylized session that was bohemian inspired to really reflect Megan’s carefree personality. She was a natural and really captured the bohemian spirit!

Megan looked stunning amongst all the flowers but I also got some great close-ups with a natural grass green backdrop that really made Megan’s gorgeous features and bright blue eyes pop. The rock wall with vines is a great natural feature for senior photos as well. Here Megan was both serious and playful and I think she looks great.

The rest of the session was taken at Franklin Park Conservatory. I love shooting seniors here because it has so many different backdrops to choose from. From beautiful fields of flowers to more urban brick walls and sculptures, it’s the perfect place to get a really diverse portfolio.

We also made sure to get some pictures up against the brick walls and on the concrete steps. The neutral colors ensure that Megan really stands out, but they add texture to the photo to keep it interesting and look fantastic in black and white! It also lends a more urban feel to a portfolio full flowers and fields.

I really love the shot of Megan standing under the sculpture in the park. She looks so sassy just like her fun personality. I had so much fun in the park with Megan playing with different poses and using different backdrops. She was a fantastic subject and she’s got a bright future ahead of her.

Family Photographer Columbus Ohio | Santa Mini Sessions

Family Photographer Columbus Ohio // Portraits by Carmen // Santa Mini Sessions

Pictures with Santa are something every Mom wants as a keepsake through the years. Nothing is more magical than those early years when they still believe in Santa. Sometimes that magic moment turns into a traumatizing event when a child is forced to wait in line and then is hurriedly plopped down in a stranger’s lap! That’s why I decided to create a magical Christmas mini session so you and your family can have a relaxing photo shoot with the one and only Santa Claus all to themselves! Santa is all real – the beard, the belly and everything- which is less frightening to children. Hot cocoa and marshmallows help lighten the mood a little too. The vintage Christmas setting make for a photo shoot you may want to display year round. Your children will leave with magical Christmas memories and you’ll have beautiful photos to remember it by.

This little guy wasn’t so sure about Santa at first but he was happy about the yummy candy canes! I let him enjoy the sweet treats for a while and got some great shots with Santa in the background. Eventually he warmed up to Santa and as you can see by the smile on his face he had a great time!

These darling sisters couldn’t stop smiling during their photo shoot, especially after Santa showed them their own names in his nice book. They couldn’t believe it!

Santa snuck up on this trio while they were drinking their hot cocoa! What a great moment for them! All three made the nice book this year too. It was candy canes and celebrating for everyone after that and I had a great time capturing those happy, smiling faces.

Franklin Park Conservatory is the perfect location for fall family photos. Just look at all the gorgeous colors in the leaves!

Angie had contacted me about doing her family’s portraits since it had been quite some time and they had the perfect excuse to do so, a new family member. Isn’t she just darling?! Of course those ornery big brothers of hers cared more about goofing off for me & my camera than anything else. They were a ton of fun!

Grove City Senior Portraits | Aubrey

I was ecstatic when Aubrey applied to be one of my Senior Models and asked me to do her Grove City Senior Portraits because it meant I would get the chance to photograph her horses as well – something I had never had the opportunity to do before I met Aubrey! I wasn’t sure how the horses would react to the camera and I was a little nervous. This flawless white horse named Ziggy must have sensed my nerves a little but Aubrey managed to calm him down and we got some AMAZING images with him. You can tell the two share a special bond.

The Horses

Unlike Ziggy, Aubrey’s pony Rascal loved being in front of the camera! He wasn’t nearly as big as Ziggy, but he felt more like a horse than a pony to me and he followed me everywhere I went trying to steal the show! Aubrey’s photo shoot with him was bit more playful. He even gave her a big kiss. He sure knew how to turn it on for the camera!

This Dress

Aubrey’s edgy red dress was a showstopper and my jaw hit the floor when she came out in it. I guess there’s another side to this country girl! We took the photos in front of this unique black and white striped wall and the contrast was perfect – a stunning girl in a stunning dress.

I loved my photo shoot with Aubrey! She’s country girl with style and grace and her pictures really showed it. She was so playful in front of the camera and had so many different looks. It was truly a delight to work with her . . . . and her horses!

Senior Pictures Westerville Ohio | Alexa – Class of 2014

As some of you may know, I work with a professional makeup artist for mostly all of my female senior sessions. One day she contacted me about a young girl who’s family had suffered a tragedy and asked if I would be interested in donating my services to help and allow this girl to have some pretty awesome senior pictures. Of course I wanted to help in any way I could. All I knew was, Alexa’s dad had been in an accident preventing him from work & he was the bread winner at home with five children, so they had no funds for quality pictures because all moneys was going to hospital bills and extensive care. Here is Alexa’s story in her words:

“Every Labor day & Memorial Day weekend my family goes down to Quaker City to camp in what my family calls the holler. It’s a family tradition and we just hang out with all of our cousins and aunts/uncles, it’s always really fun. Dad’s accident was on Saturday, August 31st of Labor day weekend. It had rained earlier that night and we were all sitting around the fire. I begged dad to take me and my friend on a night four wheeler ride because it’s also tradition. He said yes. So me, my dad and my friend Hannah hopped on our four wheeler. We went up to our cabin and rode the trails. We saw a couple deer and I asked if we could go up to the meadow up the hill behind the holler because I thought there would be a lot more deer up there. Dad really didn’t want to go up there but I begged him and he said yes. Dad’s a very cautious driver so he made us get off on the steep parts and where he had to pass over ruts. We were almost to the top of the hill to the meadow and there was a big pile of tree shredding. People were mining on our land and had cut down trees and left the shredding in the path. We didn’t see a way to go around to get up to the meadow so dad told me and Hannah to get off while he turned the four wheeler around. It was a steep hill. He had gotten the four wheeler perpendicular on the hill and I said to Hannah that I was scared to death that we were going to see the headlights flip. Within a minute of me saying that we watched as the four wheeler rolled right over on it’s side taking dad down with it. We immediately started screaming and ran to the four wheeler. I didn’t see him so I thought he had jumped off and was laying in the woods, then I saw his arm sticking out from under the four wheeler. It was completely upside down on top of him. I started screaming my head off because he wasn’t responding to me and I instantly thought he was dead. Hannah and I tried and tried to get the four wheeler off but we were on a hill so it didn’t want to budge. We continued to try as we screamed for my brothers who were at the campsite which was about a half a mile away from where we were. After about three minutes dad was able to talk and he told me to calm down, he wasn’t in any pain but he had heard and felt his neck break. I started screaming even more. My bothers got there and the look on their faces when they saw dad was under the four wheeler broke my heart. We got the four wheeler turned up on its side but it kept wanting to role back on top of him and he couldn’t push it up the hill because we weren’t strong enough. I called 911 and then Hannah and I ran to the campsite to get my brothers girlfriend who was trying to get help and then we ran to the nearest house and got a family friend to help us. We ran back to where dad was and he helped us get the four wheeler out of the way to where it wouldn’t roll back on dad. The paramedics arrived and we went down to the campsite to take them up to where dad was. I called all our family and told them what had happened. Most of my family was at a cousins football game, which is why they weren’t with us camping that night. I had to call my mom and my sisters who were at home planning to come down the next evening. (It was my parents wedding anniversary) Once the paramedics got dad out of the woods they put him on the ambulance and took him to a baseball field where he was life flighted to Akron general. All of our family made their way to the hospital and we all stayed there until Monday because we had school on Tuesday. Mom and dad stayed in Akron for two weeks. I have two brothers and two sisters. Devon (20), me (18), Luke (15), Alyssa (12) and Danica (5, at the time). We all kept going to school and held the fort down while they were away. They moved to Dodd Hall for rehab and he got sick there and had to be moved to Rhodes Hall to have an abscess in his back drained. After that he was moved to Dodd again and continued therapy. On October 22 (the day after Danica’s 6th birthday) dad came home. Since the night of dads accident he has been able to barely lift his arms and they told us that is all he will be able to do and that he will NOT walk again. Since the accident he has had some fingers come back, his arms move a little better, he can move his wrists a little, some toes and fingers are coming back, and he can move his legs just a tiny bit but it’s something. He can’t sit up on his own and has to be rotated every two hours during the night to prevent bed sores. That means mom has to get up every two hours and rotate him. It’s hard, but we’re making it. That’s my dads story. Thank you for taking my pictures!”

My heart broke for Alexa & her family after hearing this story from her. I know all too well how scary a four wheeler accident can be. My own brother was in an accident & broke his arm, had a concussion, bruised ribs and all sorts of bruises and abrasions. It was definitely a very scary moment. I’m very  grateful that’s all he suffered in his accident.

Alexa it was a pleasure to photograph you and to be able to help your family out in a time of need. I pray your dad is doing much better today and will continue to fight against all odds of him walking again.
